Hiking / bird watching. Attractive hiking paths invite one into the
surrounding area, using a hiking map, you get at the Hostel. The shore, only 1500 m away,
displays extensive birdlife, as well as seals on the beach frequently, and occasionally
whales in the sea. Super Jeep Safaris. We offer specially 4WD
jeeps and skidoos to Vatnajökull - Europes biggest glacier. Our
4WD´s can take on all conditions with advanced navigating and
communication equipment for snow, glacier and other difficult driving.
Besides having great experience in wilderness trips, our drivers
respect nature, they know how to judge its conditios and design the
trip to fit. We organize various tours to places such as
Grímsvötn, Kverkfjöll Snæfell, Öræfajökull,
Breiðamerkurjökull and Humarkló. We also make trips where we use
skis or walk on foot with guidance part of the way. Our most
popular trip is a super jeep excursions to Brókabotnstindur in
Vatnajökull. Daily departures at 09:30 and 14:00 from the byway at
road no. 1 near Vagnsstaðir Youth Hostel. First we drive up to
Skálafellsjökull glacier and then 9 km on the snowy glacier
Vatnajökull to Brókarbotnstindur where we have breathtaking
views of deep valleys, high mountains and of course the great
Vatnajökull itself. Duration: 3 hours 15 min. Reservation needs to
be made. Departures for other tours are by request at Vangsstaðir
Youth Hostel.
