Jöklasel

On Vatnajökull is mountain-hotel, Jöklasel, at an altitude of 840 m. above sea level, on Skálafellsjökull, one of Vatnajökull's numerous glaciers, approximately 55 km west of the fishing town of Höfn. Jöklasel is only 16 km from the main road. The road to Jöklasel also goes to Smyrlabjargarárvirkjun (a hydroelectric power plant). The last 6 km of the road require vehicles with four wheel drive. The Jöklasel facilities include a restaurant that comfortably seats 80 - 90 people and sleeping bag accommodations for about 30 persons. The view from Jöklasel is absolutely breathtaking as it is the highest restaurant in Iceland.
You will certainly enjoy your meal at the Jöklasel restaurant as you take in the magnificent view from the mountain tops to the open Atlantic ocean. Jöklasel is the center of all glacial activities.
